Of all the complicated things in the world, this isn’t: we love LA. It has its downsides, its problems, its underbellies of badness. But doesn’t every great city? We think it’s an amazing place to live and explore, work and play, and live amazing lives.
We try to build LA beautiful with our loves, our everyday comings and goings, and the way we build and design homes for our clients. But LA is beautiful all on its own. We just give it a little nudge every now and then. Okay, enough of the intro - 5 beautiful things about Los Angeles.
#1: Sunsets: Manhattan Beach Pier
Almost every day the sun slides down into the Pacific in its own unique way. It is truly cinematic. But the giant IMAX screen is the horizon itself, and the audience is just you. You and the moment.
Henry Miller said, "Every time you see it the vision gives you a pang of sweet awe."
#2 Jazz at the museum: Friday nights
We admit we are strange creatures - we are as passionate about our construction projects as we are about our love of a little wine with our jazz on Friday evenings. But we promise that whatever your day job, you will shine some warm light into your soul by getting out with your lover-other to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on Wilshire. It rolls out its chic delights from April through October. Does it get more gorgeous, more LA than this? Los Angeles Magazine gives more cool details at http://www.lamag.com/digestblog/posh-picnicking-from-lacma-cafe/
#3 Coffee at Cow’s End: even if there are no cows in Venice Beach
Sure there’s a Starbucks on every corner, but we get a kick out of the hip, more off-the-grid places for java meetings and re-charge brews. Like this Venice Beach coffee/cafe with our favorite name ever: Cow’s End.
# 4 Dressing up for a great evening: The Falcon Theater, Burbank.
For a that Broadway play feeling make an evening out of seeing any production at The Falcon Theater. Started by Hollywood director Frank Marshall, it is always entertaining - and often makes you just gasp at the talent you're sitting so close to you could reach out and touch them.
#5 Walking thrills: 3rd Street Promenade
Walking in LA is like dancing the Tango - the more you practice, the sexier you get, and the more fun you have. Stroll - maybe even hand-in-hand for a little inexpensive romance - from Santa Monica boulevard to Wilshire, taking in some of the best street performers in the world. Singers and musicians. Acrobats and jugglers. Drummers and comedians. Then stop for at The Misfit just off the Promenade. It's in the 1920's clock tower, the one we all love. Here's more at the LA Weekly http://www.laweekly.com/music/the-top-10-bars-in-santa-monica-4170911) Once you sit down, take a big Thank You Lord breath and order a glass of whatever pleases, and talk about your Great Idea to Change the World. A moment like this is, after all, what the world is for.
